Personal, Social and Health Education is a planned programme of teaching that promotes pupils’ personal and social development and their health and wellbeing.
It helps to give children the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy and independent lives. It aims to help them understand how they are developing personally and socially, and tackles many of the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up and becoming good citizens. PSHE covers the following themes: Being in my World, Celebrating Difference, Dreams and Goals, Healthy Me and Relationships.
PHSE also helps academic learning and develops skills for employment. It helps pupils to lead confident, healthy and responsible lives as individuals and members of society. PSHE helps pupils to understand and manage responsibly a wider range of relationships as they mature, and to show respect for the diversity of and differences between people. It also develops pupils’ wellbeing and self-esteem, encouraging their ability to succeed and to take responsibility for independent learning. We have recently acquired a fantastic new structured scheme by JIGSAW.
The lessons are delivered by Form Teachers to their form groups during one timetabled lesson per week. Many of the activities involve groups in discussing ideas and sharing opinions, thus providing individuals with an opportunity to consider various viewpoints and develop their own ideas.
