Pre-Preparatory
Thorngrove nursery aims to provide a happy, stimulating environment for children from the age of two and a half embarking on the first, most important step in their education. The structured programme of work covers a wide variety of topic work, often related to the basic skills of pre-reading, mathematics and writing.

The children's concentration and listening skills develop and they learn to interact with one another. Group times, especially those of P.E., Cookery and Music, are great favourites! In addition to the programme of work leading up to Form 1, the Nursery has a wide range of activities including sand, water, a home corner, construction toys, puzzles, games, creative activities, painting, playdough, a book corner and story-time.

The natural progression from Nursery to Form 1 at 4+ is something the children look forward to with excitement and pleasure, and parents can rest assured that they are well-prepared for the rigours of school life!

In the Pre- Preparatory department (4-7 years) teaching will cover English, Mathematics, Science, French, Art and Craft, Music, Dance Drama and P.E. At the age of 6 they begin to learn the recorder and Games Lessons increase in frequency and duration. Children at this stage absorb knowledge very readily and need to be kept motivated by fresh and stimulating teaching and resources. The variety on offer in the Pre-Prep Department at Thorngrove does just that.
