7-9 years
The curriculum broadens and becomes more formal with fixed timetabling. Lessons are subject-based and cover: English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, French, R.E. , I.T. , Gym, Dance Drama, Music, Art, Pottery and Games. Children in this age group are set prep which can be done at school from 3.45pm-4.15pm.
9-13 years
The syllabus for the Common Entrance 13+ is now followed and subject teachers are responsible for delivering the timetable for this age group, and in addition to the subjects mentioned earlier, Latin and Design and Technology are introduced at this stage. Two preps are set every day and there is a prep period from 3.45pm-5pm for those who wish to do their prep at school.
Extra English and Maths lessons are given to children who need support with their studies. Children showing outstanding academic, musical or sporting potential will be encouraged to apply for scholarships to senior schools. In our short history, children at Thorngrove have been awarded scholarships to many top Public Schools.
